Dec. 4, 8 and 11 at Artspace 105, Homestead, PA
Acrylic and oil paintings, sculptures, prints on auction by some of the world's renowned artists
The Steel Valley Arts Council (SVAC), a not for profit arts organization serving the areas of Homestead, West Homestead, and Munhall has been programming artistic activity for close to two decades and in that time the group has accumulated, by donations, a large quantity of art by some of the best local artists recognized worldwide. This collection of art will be on auction, to support SVAC's operating budget, December 4, from noon - 2 p.m., Wed. 8, from 6:30 - 8 p.m., Sat.11, from 7 - 9 p.m.
Paintings by Robert Qualters, "Dome Church" 14" x 17" acrylic on canvas, George Nama sketchbook page, signed and unsigned photocopies, artworks by Anna Marie Sninsky, Roslyn Stulga, and to name only a few of the many recognized artists that will have works on display. Visitors can make bids on over 45 pieces of artworks ranging in price from $50 - $1000, different sizes and mediums (acrylic and oil paintings, woodcut prints, sculptures, and photographs).
"This collection of art on auction is one of the most impressive groups of works that reflect the region's architecture, its ethos and characteristics," said Eric Sloss, Vice President of the Steel Valley Arts Council. "This will be a great time to buy a great piece or art at an economical price."
This collection of artwork on auction has a thematic resonance to it. All the artwork seems to connect in someway by drawing, paintings or prints that document the region in some way. Nama's sketchbook prints show Row-houses snuggled against the rolling hills of the region, Qualters street light banners are of women making perogies or the onion domes on top of local churches and Paula Bland's cubist-like paintings are of the region's steel mills.
People will be able to bid on Dec. 4, 8, and 11. December 4 is the Steel Valley's Holiday parade. Visitors will be able to bid in increments of $20 by writing their name and phone number. The bidding will last three days and on Dec. 11 final auction winners will be announced. Final winners will be able to pick up their artwork on Dec. 11 at 9 p.m. Visa, Mastercard, checks and cash will be accepted.
