what they say about SVAC:

"Spaces such as Artspace 303 are more than an asset to building the growing Pittsburgh art scene. They strive to create a digested balance in their exhibitions, showcasing experimental work and an understanding of the need to exhibit contemporary work, as well as recognizing context and community and showing work that responds to this directly. Also, Homestead has existed for many number of years now as a defeated area of Pittsburgh, like so many areas across the US which were abandoned to a culmination of circumstances and affects of suburbanization. The downtown area of Homestead is beginning to rebuild itself with tough competition of a corporate chain haven literally just across the tracks. The council is bringing community back to the forefront."

"The space exists in recognition of one of the most important tools for revitalization, the arts. It will not only feed life, cultural activities, and strength back into a community but also feed into the economy itself, by supporting the local businesses, services and events. Artspace 303 is at the core of the urban revitalization through the arts movement, made famous across the country in places like Soho New York in the 60's and the ultimate vision of one of the most influential artist of our time, Robert Smithson. The council is moving the artists in, which is moving the community through which is the start to real estate development and then the ball is rolling."

The effort and sacrifice of the members of the Steel Valley Arts Council and Art Space 303 is at heart, an altruistic venture due to a belief in quality of life which they see, could be better, under education and better urban planning. The Arts council has little interest in commercial sales of artwork or individual pinhole business venture. It instead exemplifies a full interest in the larger picture, working as whole community to move forward and therefore walking together to create a comprehensive area wide business venture for the economy and breath of the town.
