You will find your favorite spots on the island after your first visit, or maybe even several visits. Favorite spot to stay, favorite Happy Hour spot, favorite spot to watch the sunset, and favorite place to walk, We also have one; Truman Annex Key West is one of our favorites. It truly has it all.
What Are The Best Three Things About Truman Annex?
Localization
This place is centrally located, just blocks from Duval Street. It’s also a short walk away from Mallory Square. The famous Bahama Village restaurants and nightlife of Duval Street are close by, but the tranquility and quiet streets provide a peaceful retreat.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park can be reached by bike or on foot in just a few minutes. This park is located in the Truman Annex’s backyard. You can sunbathe and enjoy the view of the ocean from this beach. You can even see the fish swimming in the water while you snorkel.
Histories
Its origins can be traced back to 1845 when it was part of Fort Zachary Taylor. In 1932, the Navy built new docks to serve as a home base for submarines. It was renamed the Fort Zachary Taylor Annex in 1947. In 1974, it was closed down as larger nuclear submarines could not use the facility.
The Truman White House can be found just outside the gate. It is located near Margaritaville Resort (next to Mallory Square). Because President Truman spent many winters in Key West, the area was named Truman White House. Take the tour and stop by to see the home. It is a fascinating history, not only of Truman’s visit here but also that of other dignitaries.
Beautiful Places To Stay
In 1987, Pritam Singh purchased land from private developers to create a gated community. You are transported back in time by the tree-lined streets. You can’t hear or see the hustle and bustle of Duval as you walk through the neighborhood. You will find condos, townhomes, and stately homes here. Many of these properties also offer the possibility to rent them. If you are looking for a vacation rental, make sure to focus on the Truman annex in Key West area.
Each area and unit offers a unique take on Key West living. They also come with a parking spot, making them twice as appealing to me. You can drive in, park your car, and then you don’t have to worry about driving the car until you go.
The Foundry
They have a Bostonian exterior but all the tropical interiors. These three-level townhouses have access to a swimming pool. Interesting side notes: Thomas Edison lived in the building for six months in 1918, and he developed 41 weapons for the US war effort.
Mills Place
These condos can be found on one or two levels. They have private balconies and courtyards if you’re on the upper level.
Harbour Place Condos
From this spot, you can see passing ships and sunsets. The US Naval Headquarters was located in this building before it was converted into elegant condos.
Porter Court
This section contains nineteen homes that surround a central swimming pool and hot tub.
President’s Walk
This townhouse is on two levels and has a private courtyard and balcony.
Shipyard Condos
You will find a place to relax after a long day of activities. A downstairs unit is my preference because it has a private courtyard. An upper-level balcony is not necessary as there are no views from this section.
Whatever your reason for visiting Truman Annex Key West – plan to spend some time walking through the streets, taking in the beauty of the neighborhood, historic stops, and Fort Zach.
